The Portuguese Navy light frigate NRP JOÃO COUTINHO photographed yesterday off Cascais at the end of 44 years at sea. JOÃO COUTINHO returned to the Lisbon Naval Base at Alfeite for the last time yesterday and is set to pay off later this month. Photographs by Luís Miguel Correia taken on 14 August 2014.

A JOÃO COUTINHO foi a primeira de 10 corvetas entradas ao serviço da Marinha Portuguesa entre 1970 e 1975.

João Coutinho was the first of 10 shiphs built 1970 to 1975 for the Portuguese Navy.

CORVETA NRP JOÃO COUTINHO

Corveta JOÃO COUTINHO a largar de Ponta Delgada, São Miguel, em Setembro de 2003.
A Marinha tem habitualmente uma corveta baseada nos Açores. Com 38 anos de serviço activo, a JOÃO COUTINHO vai ser substituida pelos novos patrulhões da classe VIANA DO CASTELO, cujas duas primeiras unidades aguardam finalização do aprestamento nos ENVC.
