O PIANO DO HIGHLAND HOPE

See the old piano of Nelson Line's HIGHLAND HOPE here... The passenger cargo motor liner HIGHLAND HOPE was lost off the coast of Portugal at Farilhões Rock in late 1930 only months after her maiden voyage to South America.

NELSON's HIGHLANDS

Beautiful company post card of Nelson Lines Highland-class sister ships.
Those five sisters built by Harland & Wolff in 1928-1930 for Nelson Line's South America service were regular visitors to Lisbon and one of them, the HIGHLAND HOPE was lost at Berlengas Islands and replaced by a sixth sister. Another was lost on WW2 and the final four were replaced in 1959-1960 by Royal Mail Lines final A-class liners AMAZON, ARAGON and ARLANZA.
During the Great Depression Nelson Line was one of the shipping companies that lost independence and the respective fleet and services were merged with Royal Mail Lines. In this post card the HIGHLAND X.. is depicted somewhere off Tenerife Island on her way South to Buenos Aires.
