FRED OLSEN BLACKs of 1966

When they were built in Germany back in 1966, they were the largest cruise ferries in the world: Fred Olsen Lines sisters BLACK WATCH and BLACK PRINCE. They met in Lisbon on 24 April 1990 while cruising. By then the BLACK WATCH was cruising as NORWAY LINE's JUPITER.

BLACK WATCH / JUPITER of 1966

For about 20 years the BLACK WATCH was co-owned by two famous Norwegian shipping companies: Fred Olsen Lines, who operated the ship as BLACK WATCH between September and April on the Londos - Madeira - Canary Islands regular passengar cargo and cruise service, and Bergenske, who used the same ship every summer on the North Sea ferry routes under the name JUPITER.
In 1986 the agreement between both companies ended and the ship became part of the Bergenske fleet, retaining the name JUPITER when transferred to NORWAY LINE soon after. As such she cruised extensively in South European waters and even spent a period of winter lay up in Lisbon.
