The Norwegian Royal Yacht NORGE in Portugal

The Norwegian Royal Yacht arrived at Cascais, Portugal on 25th May 2008 waiting for His Majesty the King Harald V for a state visit to Portugal on 27 - 29th May.
The NORGE is an extremely beautiful ship, built at Southampton, England by the famous yacht builders Camper & Nicholson's Ltd., to the order of T. Sopwith as the PHILANTE and launched to the water on 17th February 1937.
During WW2 she served in the Royal Navy as an anti-submarine escort and
after the war was purchased by the Norwegian people and offered to the King in 1947 after reconditioning at Southampton as the Royal Yacht NORGE.
She suffered a serious fire on 7th March 1985 but was repaired in order to continue to show the Norwegian flag as the country's Royal Yacht.
The NORGE is operated by the Royal Norwegian Navy (Pennant number N533). With a displacement of 1.786 tons, the 80.2 m long twin screw ship is equiped with 2 Bergen diesel main engines developing 3.520 bhp and attains a service speed of 17 knots.
