REX: Italian Line flagship

Two original post cards of the former italian Line flagship REX, one of the most famous passenger liners of the 20th century and the only Italian liner to hold the Blue Riband trophy for the speed record on the North Atlantic crossings.

Paquete italiano REX

Paquete italiano REX pintado pelo meu Amigo Stephen Card, mostrando o navio na aproximação ao porto de Nova Iorque, passando o navio-farol de Nantucket. Gosto particularmente desta imagem e da forma como Stephen Card conseguedar vida aos seus personagens gigantescos marítimos.

O REX foi o maior navio de passageiros convencional italiano, com cerca de 50 000 toneladas (TAB), encomendado para o Lloyd Sabaudo mas entregue já depois da formação da companhia Itália, em 1932 na sequência da reorganização da marinha mercante por Mussolini. Este belo navio passou a guerra (1940 a 1944) no Adriático onde foi destruído pela aviação Aliada, em Setembro de 1944, sem necessidade nenhuma...
