TEXAS CLIPPER in Lisbon 29 June 1989

The U. S. training ship TEXAS CLIPPER arriving Lisbon on 29 June 1989.
Built in 1944 as the USS QUEENS, this 9.644 grt ship was one of four sisters purchased in 1947 by American Export Lines and converted into passenger cargo liners for the New York Medeiterranean service as the second set of "Four Aces".
The TEXAS CLIPPER sailed under AEL colours between 1948 and 1960 and was transferred to the Texas Maritime Academy in 1965.
I photographed this magnificent old steamer from a tug in the river Tagus and enjoyed very much the negatives and slides shot almost 20 years ago...
