CAP SAN DIEGO at Blohm & Voss

On 14 March 2011, the CAP SAN DIEGO - docked in the floating dock 16. The "old lady" is being repaired by the Blohm + Voss Repair not only with a new exterior paint, but also the marine engineering is being brought up to date: engine, cargo gear, hatch covers and ventilation systems are the big issues, such as the sea chests and ballast system overhauled, cleaned, various tanks and new conserved, cylinder cover change, generators rewound, guy winches overhauled for the cargo gear, the windlass lifted and a new boiler fitted to the ship. A total of nearly 300 items on the yard list. After probably 11 days under the shipyard care the "White Swan of the South Atlantic" will shine then in a fresh new look and will be fit for the upcoming trips in German waters.
With greetings from Hamburg, Holger Platzer
O CAP SAN DIEGO faz 50 anos em 2011 e tem um programa apetecível de viagem no rio Elba, canal de Kiel e Báltico. Quem me dera embarcar... Obrigado, Holger Platzer pela informação e fotografias.

A state of the art fast general cargo liner built in Hamburg in 1961-1962, for Hamburg Sud Europe - South America service she was rescued by the City of Hamburg which purchased the ship when she was about to be sold for scrap.
She was restored to her former glory and is in perfect technical conditions, operating both as a static museum and as a cruise ship in German waters.
