ITALIAN LINE BRAZIL PLATA SERVICE

The end of long distance Finmare Group passenger liner services was written on the wall since 1973, when the Italian Government announced the end of operating subsidies. The GIULIO CESARE was replaced by CRISTOFORO COLOMBO in 1973, and in January 1976 her sister AUGUSTUS was retired and replaced by GUGLIELMO MARCONI, transferred from Lloyd Triestino's Australia service. The end came sooner than expected, and the COLOMBO was sold to Venezuela in April 1977, followed by the MARCONI being laid up in June 1977.
Memorabilia from the LMC collection.
