The New Year's eve gathering of cruise ships at Funchal, Madeira Island totaled 13 ships on 31st December 2007, the highest figure since 1969: AIDAdiva, ALBATROS, ATHENA, AURORA, BLACK WATCH, COSTA SERENA, PRINCESS DANAE, SAGA ROSE, SAGA RUBY, THE WORLD, THOMSON DESTINY, VAN GOGH and the cruise ferry LOBO MARINHO.
The New Year's eve in Funchal has a long traditions as a port of call for cruises ships since the early thirties. A regular visitor from 1961 to 1974 was the Portuguese liner FUNCHAL, seen in the photograph docked in Funchal harbour in the early sixties (Luís Miguel Correia collection photo from the old Insulana archives purchased in 1985 when CTM was closed).

ReplyDeleteQue bom ver essas imagens antigas do Fim do Ano na Madeira e os cartazes de publicidade. É preciso preservar essas memórias e partilhar, como serve também este blogue. Abraço do Luís Filipe / Madeira
ReplyDeleteLUIS FILIPE,
ReplyDeleteO FUNCHAL a brilhar de novo era um espanto a entrar e a sair do porto do Funchal nos anos sessenta. Que saudades...
