The HANSEATIC (I) of 1958-1966

The magnificent German passenger liner HANSEATIC of 1958 docked in Hamburg.
Built by Fairfields at Glasgow in 1929 - 1930 for Canadian Pacific as EMPRESS OF JAPAN, she was renamed EMPRESS OF SCOTLAND in 1942 and sold to Hamburg Atlantic Line in January 1958 and modernized in Hamburg.
She was damaged by fire on 7 September 1966 in New York and sold for scrap the following December.
A new liner had been ordered to replace her in 1969, so in the meantime the SHALOM was purchased in 1967 becoming the second HANSEATIC. This second ship was joined in 1969 by a new flagship, the HAMBURG, actual MAXIM GORKIY.
To the left another passenger liner can also be seen, the ARGENTINA or one of her two sisters.
