The new Portuguese container ship CORVO left her builder fitting out berth yesterday 21 June 2007 to start the sea trials.
On speed trials off the coast of Viana do Castelo, the CORVO attained a speed of 17,10 knots at full power.
The CORVO has been built by VIANAYARD - Estaleiros Navais de Viana do Castelo, at Viana do Castelo, Portugal (Yard BO. 210) to the order of Mutualista Açoreana de Transportes Marítimos, of Ponta Delgada, Azores, a Bensaude Group company established in 1920 and now the oldest of the shipping companies operating to the Azores.
The CORVO is schedulled to be delivered in July 2007 in order to start her maiden voyage from Lisbon to the Azores on 20 July 2007.
CORVO main particulars: IMO nº 9164548; length overall 119.8 m; Breadth extreme 20.0 m; Gross Tonnage: 7.067 GT; Deadweight 9.000 dwt; Displacement full load 12.772 tons; cargo capacity: 620 TEUs (410 TEUs 14 tons), Cranes: 2 TTL KL 45 tons at 29 m; Main engine: 1 CAT-MAK engine, 6.000 kw / 500 rpm. Service speed: 16 knots. The CORVO will be registered under the Portuguese flag at Ponta Delgada, St. Michaels, Azores. She was purpose built to operate between Lisbon, Leixões and the Azores ports (Ponta Delgada, Praia da Vitória, Horta, Velas and São Roque do Pico) a round voyage taking about 12 days.

Hoje vi e fotografei o Furnas a sair de Lisboa. A cores dos navios da Mutualista são muito bonitas. Recordo-me de ver o Açor na Madeira nos princípios dos anos 90 e já nessa altura gostava destas cores.
