The famous former Holland America Line flagship ROTTERDAM of 1959 photographed at Wilhelmshaven, Germany, on 22 April 2008 by Cai Ronnau. The ROTTERDAM served Holland America between 1959 and 1997, when she was replaced by the present ROTTERDAM and sold to Premier Cruises. As REMBRANDT she cruised until September 2000 when the Premier went bankrupt.
At first laid up in the Bahamas, she was saved from the scrapyard by a Dutch group and towed to Gibraltar. Later dry-docked at Cadiz before a long tow ro Poland and Germany where she is being refited and converted into a Hotel Ship due to be preserved in the Port of Rotterdam.
