One of the greatest cruise ports in the world and the most stunning Portuguese cruise port, Funchal, in Madeira Island, is specially famous for it's gathering of cruise ships on New Year's eve, a tradition that goes back to the roaring 1920s when the local Reid's Hotel started the display of fireworks on 31 December.
