COMPANHIA COLONIAL sisters

Memorabilia of the handsome Portuguese passenger liners VERA CRUZ and SANTA MARIA, two Belgium-built 21.000 tons sisters ordered in 1949 and 1950 by Companhia Colonial de Navegação for the Lisbon-Brazil-Argentina service. VERA CRUZ was delivered in March 1952 and SANTA MARIA followed in October 1953. They saw extensive service in the South and Central America services as well as cruising. After 1961 VERA CRUZ was also used for trooping duties. Both ships were broken up in Taiwan in 1973.
