Ficou concluída ontem, dia 25 de Julho de 2013, a nova pintura da chaminé do paquete FUNCHAL, com as cores adoptadas pela nova empresa operadora do navio, a Portuscale Cruises. Em termos de proporções a aplicação do símbolo gráfico da Portuscale resultou melhor no FUNCHAL do que no final de Junho no PORTO.
O FUNCHAL está a ser modernizado no estaleiro da Rocha do Conde de Óbidos, em Lisboa e os trabalhos estão a entrar na fase final, estando previsto que o navio retome o serviço de cruzeiros internacionais já em Agosto de 2013. A título de curiosidade, a chaminé do FUNCHAL passa agora pela sua 11ª versão em termos de cores, desde 1961.

FUNCHAL showing her new funnel colours: The Portuguese cruise ship FUNCHAL had her gracious funnel repainted in the livery of the new operator PORTUSCALE CRUISES yesterday, 25th July, in Lisbon. This is the eleventh different funnel colours in the 52 years of history of the FUNCHAL, a Classic Beauty looking fantastic again and due to return to international cruises service next August in European waters. She is set to become the "Great Old Girl of Classic Cruising", as an American PR team could classify her... Although FUNCHAL is in fact a 52-year old passenger ship, she must be seen as the more genuine of the few remaining active post-war passenger ships. Although she has had a long, mostly successful and varied active life the final 35 months have turned the most challenging with the demise of the previous owners and a negative economic environment leadind to a possible sad end to FUNCHAL. Well she has been rescued from a possible final trip to Aliaga and on 17 January 2013 FUNCHAL and three of her fleet mates were purchased by a new Portuguese company and since then she has returned to life. Nothing seems to be spared to turn her into a beautiful reconditioned 4-star cruise ship and in fact FUNCHAL now starts to look better than ever although when new she was a masterpiece of beauty and perfectionism...
