I am pleased to inform that today 29 October is the SHIPS AND THE SEA DAY, a special date since 53 years ago.
On 29 October 1956 the Port of Lisbon - my home port, I must say ,offered the quiet look we can observe in the B&W photo (see the adjoining post in Portuguese) and there were three passenger ship arrivals, the Portuguese mail ship MOÇAMBIQUE, returning from East and West Africa and Funchal with 534 passengers, the Argentine liner CORRIENTES, from South America and Las Palmas (with 106 passengers, including 13 for Lisbon), and the CNN Orient liner ÍNDIA, from Leixões.
Other passenger ships in Lisbon on that first SHIPS AND THE SEA DAY in 1956 were the Portuguese liners ALFREDO DA SILVA (undergoing repairs since 3-10-1956), LIMA (arrived on 18-10-1956), QUANZA (under repairs since 26-08-1956) and RITA MARIA (in port since 27-10-1956).
Fifty three years ago I was unable to go to the docks and photograph all the ships just because in fact I was born that very day (29-10-1956) at 7h50 AM, not very far from the river Tagus and the docks. People say I cried all day long, probably because nobody was able to take me to the docks at once, but in due time I have done so countless times and I say it is very good to have a life full of ships and the sea...

Cumprimentos
