Carnival Corp. & plc is dealing with Fincantieri for the order of the first ship in a future new class of cruises ships for Princess Cruise. The order is expected to be signed this December for a 2013 delivery date.
Princess Cruises newest ship at the moment is the RUBY PRINCESS, introduced in 2008 and the third in a row of sisters formed by Emerald Princess introduced in 2007 and Crown Princess of 2006.
If signed, this contract will produce the first cruise ship to be delivered in 2013 following a the present critical global crisis.
At present the order books of yards specialized in cruise ships only register work until 2012 and there is the concern that some may reduce capacity or close doors.
The Carnival Group has been the main customer for Fincantieri cruise ships over the years.
