It is always nice to be able to see and photograph sister ships together and the thrill is even higher if we talk about beautiful classic ships, like PRINCESS DANAE and her sister PRINCESS DAPHNE, seen together in Lisbon at the Navalrocha shipyard today 29 November 2008.
Built in 1955 in Belfast and Newcastle-upon-Tyne for Port Line as PORT MELBOURNE and PORT SYDNEY they were converted for cruising in Greece in 1974-1976 when they were renamed DANAE and DAPHNE for Karras Cruises. They were later chartered and sold to Costa Cruises without change of name and sailed also inthe livery of Prestige Cruises but in the 1990s were sold to different operators and it was only this years that both sisters were reunited in the fleet of Classic International Cruises which had purchased the BALTICA in 1996 when she was renamed PRINCESS DANAE.
With the present troubles of Club Cruise, Lisbon-based Classic International Cruises is now one of the very few medium sized independent cruise ship operators. May she continue for many years with Mr. George P. Potamianos at the helm.
