The American Export Lines' passenger ships INDEPENDENCE and ATLANTIC photographed in Lisbon in the fifties and early sixties. The INDEPENDENCE is seen in her original livery and form, looking as beautiful as ever. 
The ATLANTIC was introduced in 1960 as a stop gap for the third express liner that would never be built. Competition from heavily subsidized ITALIAN LINE with better more modern ships like the LEONARDO DA VINCI or the RAFFAELLO on the New York - Mediterranean service led to the lay up of the three final American Export Liners in 1967-68, but later all three were sold to C.Y.Tung Group companies and the INDEPENDENCE returned to Lisbon for three calls in 1975 as the OCEANIC INDEPENDENCE while the ATLANTIC paid one final visit to the Tagus also in 1975 as the UNIVERSE CHAPMAN.

Os navios do pos-Guerra da American Export eram extremamente belos e únicos... e fregueses habituais do Porto de Lisboa.

Para o ramalhete ficar completo, só faltavam mesmo os belos Four Aces, mas que não faziam (penso eu de que) escala regular em Lisboa.
Mas penso que mais tarde veio a Lisboa o único sobrevivente da classe, o TEXAS CLIPPER (ex EXCAMBION).
O Luís pode partilhar connosco uma foto dessa visita?
Tanto mais que o TEXAS CLIPPER está a poucos dias de ser afundado como recife artificial... :(
Seria preferível tê-lo no Porto de Nova Iorque, preservado e a funcionar como museu dedicado à Marinha Mercante Norte-Americana.

Fotografei o TEXAS CLIPPER das duas últimas vezes que passou em Lisboa. Era lindo e esteve atracado na ponta da Rocha. Além destes tb o SAVANNAH cá esteve diversas vezes....
