QM2 and COSTA EUROPA RACING ON THE RIVER TAGUS

Close up of the race between the cruise ships QUEEN MARY 2 and COSTA EUROPA in Lisbon off the Alg]es Pilot Station. The COSTA ship was going to overtake the Carnival Group flagship QM2, but then the Cunarder increased speed and disembarked the harbour pilot before the Italian ship.
This photograph shows clearly one of the most interesting design features on the QM2, her streamlined upper works and bridge clearly influenced by the design of the QUEEN ELIZABETH of 1940. The QM2 mast on the other way is a smaller replica of the QE2 mast...

QM2 and COSTA EUROPA sailing from Lisbon

The passenger / cruise ships QUEEN MARY 2 and COSTAEUROPA visited Lisbon on 24 June 2008 and departed at the same time.
There is something special about the QUEEN MARY 2 that turns all the other ships into the small ships league...

COSTA Festival in Lisbon

No it is not the name of another giant for COSTA, but the Italian cruise ships COSTA EUROPA and COSTA VICTORIA visited Lisbon together on 31 March, leaving port one after the other as seen in the first photo. The weather could not have been better and so several new shots were taken.
Costa Cruises is celebrating 60 years of passenger shipping this year and has increased significantly the visits to Lisbon: seven Costa ships have calls scheduled for Lisbon in 2008: COSTA ATLANTICA, COSTA CLASSICA, COSTA EUROPA, COSTA MARINA, COSTA MEDITERRANEA, COSTA SERENA and COSTA VICTORIA.
