KUNGSHOLM of 1966 revisited

The passenger ship OCEANIC II, ex-MONA LISA, ex- VICTORIA, ex-SEA PRINCESS ex-KUNGSHOLM of 1966 has just visited Lisbon between 13 and 19 September 2007 on her first SCOLAR SHIP voyage with students. The ship is scheduled to return to Lisbon next year in April and September.
Although the refit made in Bremen in 1979 when she was purchased by P&O did in fact spoil the KUNGSHOLM original handsome look, she is still a very interesting example of fine passenger ship architecture of the 1960, as can be stated on the photos published in our sister blog LISBON CRUISE SHIPS and taken in Lisbon on 2007-09-19. OCEANIC II in Lisbon 13-09-2007

The OCEANIC II arrived Lisbon very early in the morning, at 05h59 a long way before there was any sun light, so I had to go to the river in order to photograph her alongside. The light was not very good with some light fog, anyway it was wonderful to see the former KUNGSHOLM in Lisbon again. In dark blue funnel she looks very much Greek-style, and I only wish P&O had not ruined her fantastic original looks...
It is also interesting to see thge former Swedish flagship cruising as a students ship. Many years ago the ones of British India used to berth at the same terminal... NEVASA, UGANDA, DUNERA and the DEVONIA...

LISBON PAX SHIPPING 13-09-2007

The passenger ships OCEANIC II, BLACK WATCH and DELPHIN VOYAGER alongside Lisbon cruise terminals on 13 September 2007. The main attraction for me was the OCEANIC II, an old friend I have been photographing since her Swedish American Line days in 1975...
