QE2 in Lisbon 29-10-2008

Today 29 October 2008, the Cunard passenger ship QUEEN ELIZABETH 2 is paying another of her final calls in Lisbon.
She crossed the bar at 5h36 and berthed at the Alcântara cruise terminal at about 6h00, to depart this afternoon at 16h00.
QUEEN ELIZABETH 2 sailed from Southampton on 27-10 for a final Mediterranean farewel cruise prior to the delivery voyage to Dubai, with departure from her home port on 11 November and a final call in Lisbon on 13 November.
The QE2 first called in Lisbon on 28 April 1969 on her shakedown cruise. Considered by many the most famous passenger ship of the world, her future seems less than bright as an hotel floating platform in Dubai, as her new owners are enthusiasticaly planing so many changes to the QE2 that she will be almost irrecognisable and probably a shadow of what she is now.
Photo of the QE2 in Lisbon on 3 June 1975, on one of my earliest pictures of the then Cunard flagship still showing the original slim white funnel.
