SHIPS IN STAMPS MADE IN ITALY

Two Italian ships in stamps: the famous passenger liners SATURNIA, one of the first large motor passenger liners of the late nineteen twenties, and a ship that sailed for almost forty years, being replaced in 1965 by MICHELANGELO; also a small high-tech naval ship, the SPARVIERO of 1973.

ALFEITE DOCKYARD

With the demise of LISNAVE's major Margueira yard the largest shipyard still active in Lisbon is Portugues Navy's ALFEITE DOCKYARD, where many ships were built and refitted over the last 70 years.
On 5 July 2010 it looked very atmospheric and beautiful as part of an industrial landscape of the past. Still lots of cranes and small ships.
In the picture the white ship is Portuguese Navy's survey ship D. CARLOS I undergoing a refit.

Visitante 1 111 111...

The old Portuguese passenger car ferry ALENTEJENSE photographed on 5 July 2010 alongside Cacilhas pier close to the lighthouse.
Now one of the oldest ferries still in service in Lisbon, she is due for replacement when the new sisters LISBONENSE and ALMADENSE are delivered later this year. All have traditional "ense" names from the old Parceria dos Vapores Lisbonenses.

New Lisbon Cruise Terminal

The building of the new cruise terminal in Lisbon is underway as can be seen in the photographs taken on 23 June 2010.
When completed the terminal will span her berths from Praça do Comércio up to the former Cais da Pedra, near Transinsular's container terminal. The scemnery is superb and ships will berth close to the city's old quarters of Alfama and downtown Lisbon.

Porto, navios, contentores

A Chegada do VERA CRUZ

Porto Grande do Mindelo
