This curious photograph kindly sent from Funchal by Captain Duarte Chaves Correia captured the two final ships laid down for the long gone SITMAR Cruises. It was taken in Funchal, Madeira Island, on 1 May 2009 and shows OCEAN VILLAGE, ex-ARCADIA, ex-STAR PRINCESS, laid down in May 1988 in St Nazaire as SITMAR FAIRMAJESTY, and the ATLANTIC STAR, built also in France, but at La Seine, for SITMAR as the FAIRSKY of 1984 - the last steam turbine passenger ship to have been built.In September 1988 SITMAR was taken over by Princess Cruises and so the SITMAR FAIRMAJESTY was delivered in May 1989 as STAR PRINCESS, and by then the FAIRSKY had been renamed SKY PRINCESS under Princess Cruises management.
