A FOICE E O MARTELO NOS MARES

Com a derrocada do muro de Berlim e do sistema soviético, a foice e o martelo que durante quase todo o século XX decoraram as chaminés dos navios mercantes da URSS desapareceram num ápice, reflectindo a falta de suporte popular das ditaduras ditas populares dos Países de Leste.
Esta chaminé era do paquete LATVIA, um dos 19 gémeos da classe MIKHAIL KALININ construídos entre 1958 e 1964 na RDA. O LATVIA foi o segundo navio de passageiros da URSS a visitar Lisboa depois de o porto da capital ter sido aberto a navios soviéticos, em 1975.

Soviet Liner LATVIA in Lisbon

The Soviet passenger ship LATVIA arriving in Lisbon on a cruise in the 1980s. She was operated by the Black Sea Shippping Company based in Odessa and had 18 sisterships, all built in East Germany in 1958-1964.
