BLACK WATCH azul e cinza

Uma espécie de foto do dia, com o BLACK WATCH, ultra-imponente, a sair do porto de Lisboa na tarde de 14 de Maio, com uma belíssima luz, o que ultimamente não tem sido regra. Um BLACK WATCH com o velho pedigree de ter sido o primeiro navio da Royal Viking Line, em 1972, ano em que o conheci, na Madeira, e que na altura achei tão feio, atracado ao molhe da Pontinha. Os anos passaram pelo ROYAL VIKING STAR, que já conta 46, e hoje é considerado um dos navios de cruzeiros mais bonitos da actualidade. As cores da Fred. Olsen também ajudam, são finas e distintas, agora com mais uma mudança, os quatro paquetes estão a ser pintados de azul no casco, em substituição do cinzento, também muito bonito e menos vulgar que o azul.

Fred. Olsen cruise ships in Lisbon

Three of the actual four Fred. Olsen Cruise Line passenger ships visited Lisbon this October 17 to 19th. First to arrive, on the 17th October, was BLACK WATCH, now even more elegant in grey hull livery. 

The following day it was time for the flagship BALMORAL to dock in Lisbon, and on 19th October it was BRAEMAR's turn. It would be nice to have the four ships together in Lisbon in the future, Fred. Olsen having just selected Cadiz for such a rendezvous in 2017.

Fred. Olsen cruise ships have been calling in Lisbon regularly since 1971 when their BLACK PRINCE of 1966 operated 14-day winter cruises from Roterdam to Lisbon and the Atlantic Islands. BLACK WATCH em Lisboa

Aspectos parciais do paquete BLACK WATCH fotografado a 4 de Abril de 2015 atracado ao cais da Rocha durante um cruzeiro com passageiros ingleses às Canárias e Madeira via Lisboa e Vigo. O BLACK WATCH é um conhecido de longa data, pois encontrámos-nos pela primeira vez no porto do Funchal em 1972, chamava-se então ROYAL VIKING STAR e acabara de ser entregue pelo estaleiro finlandês Wartsila à nova companhia norueguesa Royal Viking Line, na realidade uma associação de outros três armadores noruegueses, pertencendo o R. V. STAR à Bengenske. A chaminé era uma cópia nítida da do QUEEN ELIZABETH 2.

Festival de paquetes dos anos 70 no Tejo

 Ontem, dia 22 de Setembro de 2011, o porto de Lisboa apresentava atracados aos seus cais de Alcântara, Jardim do Tabaco e Santa Apolónia, três navios de cruzeiros da década de 1970.
O primeiro a chegar foi o SAGA RUBY, construído em Inglaterra em 1973 com o nome VISTAFJORD para a Norwegian Amarica Line e hoje propriedade da Saga Cruises.
Seguiu-se a atracação do OCEAN COUNTESS, um paquete grego de bandeira portuguesa (Registo MAR) afretado pela empresa inglesa Cruise Maritime: o navio foi construído na Dinamarca e acabado em Itália em 1976 com o nome CUNARD COUNTESS, para a companhia Cunard.

A meio da manhã, foi a vez do BLACK WATCH, da Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines atracar a Santa Apolónia, completando o grupo: o BLACK WATCH data de 1972, foi construído na Finlândia para o armador norueguês Royal Viking, com o nome ROYAL VIKING STAR.

Entretanto, escondido na Matinha, continua o nosso FUNCHAL, em reparação e rejuvenescimento.

CRUISE SHIP FESTIVAL in Lisbon

May is always a busy time for cruise shipping in Lisbon and this year the ships and the weather coul  not have been more positive.

Here it is a glimpse of our present passenger shipping movements in Lisbon with photos of SAGA RUBY (16 May), BLACK WATCH, JEWEL of the SEAS, SILVER SPIRIT, AIDAcara (15 May).

Those and many other passenger ships have been the subject of busy ship photo sessions.

Chaminés tipo QE2

Um dos aspectos revolucionários associados à estética do paquete inglês QUEEN ELIZABETH 2 foi a sua chaminé extremamente original. O impacto foi tão grande que depressa influenciou outros navios, com destaque para os gémeos da Royal Viking Line de 1972-73, cujo primeiro paquete, o ROYAL VIKING STAR é agora o BLACK WATCH da Fred. Olsen, cuja chaminé fotografámos no Tejo a 16 de Janeiro último, à largada na sua escala mais recente.

Proas lançadas

Quando vi esta proa pela primeira vez, achei-a exageradamente lançada e com um escóvem ortodoxo. O navio estava atracado no Funchal e era o Verão de 1972. O nome gravado nesta proa era então o original: ROYAL VIKING STAR, primeiro de três gémeos construídos no estaleiro Wartsila em Helsínquia em 1972 e 1973 para uma nova companhia norueguesa, a Royal Viking Line.

Levei alguns anos até começar a apreciar as linhas modernas destes ROYAL VIKINGs, mas os anos foram passando e hoje quase se podem considerar clássicos.

Christmas Cruises in Lisbon

Lisbon main cruise terminals had a busy day with the calls of ALBATROS, AMADEA and BLACK WATCH on their Christmas cruises. AMADEA had a Christmas tree on the mast, keeping with an old tradition. Also in port were the Classic International Cruises FUNCHAL and PRINCESS DANAE, undergoing refiting work.
