Cunarders in Lisbon

Cunard cruise ship QUEEN ELIZABETH called in Lisbon as schedulled on the final leg of her world cruise on 24 April 2012 (see two photos of her departure), however the flagship QUEEN MARY 2 bypassed Lisbon on 25 April, cruising along our Atlantic coast bound for Southampton at 22 knots. She called at Malaga on 24 April instead... We missed the QM2.

QUEEN MARY 2 cancelou escala em Lisboa

O paquete QUEEN MARY 2, que está a fazer o seu habitual cruzeiro de volta ao mundo, cancelou a escala prevista para Lisboa no próximo dia 25 de Abril, visitando Málaga em substituição. O motivo desta alteração prende-se com o facto de desta alteração resultar uma economia nos custos do navio.

Trata-se de uma situação muito negativa para Lisboa, que no dia 15 perdeu a escala do SAGA SAPPHIRE devido a avaria deste paquete, e registou igualmente, em Março o cancelamento de uma escala de cada um dos navios BOUDICCA e OCEANA devido a uma greve do pessoal das lanchas dos pilotos de Lisboa e este mês de Abril perdeu ainda diversas escalas do paquete FUNCHAL que permanece imobilizado na Matinha. Má sorte ou azar, não nos podemos deixar de preocupar com estas situações.

QM2 e COSTA MÁGICA no Tejo

Chegada do QUEEN MARY 2 a Lisboa, dia 16 de Setembro de 2009. Além do QUEEN, fizeram escala na mesma data os paquetes AMADEA (atracou a Santa Apolónia) e COSTA MAGICA, que chegou imediatamente após o navio-almirante da Cunard e tracou na Rocha.
O QUEEN esteve atracado em Alcantara, como habitual.

CRUZEIROS EM ROTERDÃO

Roterdão é um dos portos europeus que nos últimos anos viu crescer a actividade de navios de cruzeiros.
As imagens do nosso Amigo Cees de Bijl mostram duas facetas da realidade actual dos paquetes em Roterdão: um visitante ilustre, o icónico paquete britânico QUEEN MARY 2, atracado no passado dia 22 de Julho de 2009 durante um cruzeiro, e o antigo navio de passageiros ROTTERDAM, construído na cidade na década de 1950 e entrado ao serviço da Holland America Line em 1959, que se encontra preservado devido a esforços conjugados de entidades oficiais e privadas.
De salientar a atitude dos holandeses e em especial da população de Roterdão que têm o maior orgulho nas actividades marítimas e portuárias da sua grande cidade, ao contrário do que acontece em Lisboa, onde uma elite bacoca e ignota promove campanhas de desmaritimização e contra o binómio Cidade-Navios, baseadas em limitações estéticas inquinadas, alimentadas na cultura de "fare niente" nacional e possivelmente promovidas indirectamente pelos "lobbies" do betão e dos patos bravos alfacinhas que não descansam enquanto não levarem as suas realizações cinzentas a todas as áreas fluviais e portuárias possíveis.

QUEEN MARY 2 in Lisbon 2009-05-23

The magnificent QUEEN MARY 2 arrived in Lisbon on another cruise very early on 23 May 2009.
By 7.30 AM she was secured to the Alcântara Cruise Terminal berth always used by the Cunard QUEENS past and present, and is due to sail again at 4.30PM.

QM2 and COSTA EUROPA RACING ON THE RIVER TAGUS

Close up of the race between the cruise ships QUEEN MARY 2 and COSTA EUROPA in Lisbon off the Alg]es Pilot Station. The COSTA ship was going to overtake the Carnival Group flagship QM2, but then the Cunarder increased speed and disembarked the harbour pilot before the Italian ship.
This photograph shows clearly one of the most interesting design features on the QM2, her streamlined upper works and bridge clearly influenced by the design of the QUEEN ELIZABETH of 1940. The QM2 mast on the other way is a smaller replica of the QE2 mast...

CUNARD FESTIVAL in Southampton

On 22nd April 2008 the three Cunard QUEENS in active service met at Southampton for the first time.
While the QE2 was doing her final refit prior to delivery to Dubai in November, the QM2 was sailing for New York while the newest fleet member QUEEN VICTORIA was about to sail on a cruise.
In the end it was the perfect setting for a public relations action...
And the ships are really beautiful in traditional Cunard livery...
There will be three QUEENS again in 2010 when the new QUEEN ELIZABETH enters service...

O ZÉZITO e a Rainha...

Continuamos a nossa pesquisa sobre o rebocador português ZÉZITO e vamos assim aumentando os nossos conhecimentos acerca desta valiosa unidade da frota mercante nacional.
Acabámos de confirmar que o ZÉZITO foi construído em 1948 no Canadá pelo estaleiro Russel Brothers, Ltd.
O ZÉZITO apresenta as características seguintes: arqueação bruta - 16,06 toneladas, arqueação líquida - 4,82 toneladas, comprimento - 11,22 m, boca - 3,26 m, pontal - 1,36 m. Aparelho propulsor - 1 motor diesel Cummins com a potência de 190 bhp.
Apresentamos também uma nova imagem do ZÉZITO, com este rebocador a navegar no Tejo à proa do paquete QUEEN MARY 2. CUNARD QUEENS IN LISBON

The RMS QUEEN ELIZABETH 2 called in Lisbon on 15-05-2007 while her fleet mate QM2 docked exactly at the same berth the following day 16 May 2007. I did some more photos of the two ships, QE2 and QM2, alongside the Alcântara cruise terminal and leaving the river Tagus outbound.

QM2 despediu-se de Lisboa por este ano

Esteve em Lisboa este ano pela terceira e última vez o paquete inglês QUEEN MARY 2, em mais um cruzeiro ao Mediterrâneo.
O navio atracou em Alcântara a 22 de Setembro. Considerado o navio de passageiros mais prestigiado da actualidade, o QM2 já esteve nove vezes no Tejo desde que largou para a viagem inaugural em Janeiro de 2004.
Para o ano estão previstas mais duas escalas em Lisboa.

PAQUETES INGLESES EM LISBOA

Os actuais navios de cruzeiros britanicos que frequentemente visitam Lisboa não são mais que o renovar de uma tradição que remonta ao segundo quartel do século XIX quando a P&O iniciou a sua actividade com carreiras regulares para o Tejo, e a Mala Real Inglesa, cujas navios de passageiros fizeram escalas regulares em LISBOA de 1851 a 1971.

Nos anos sessenta e setenta quando me começei a interessar por navios de passageiros, era frequente estarem atracados em simultâneo diversos paquetes ingleses. Tal como voltou a acontecer no passado dia 9-08-2006, com o QUEEN MARY 2 e o ORIANA, que atracaram em Alcântara e na Rocha, respectivamente. Ao largar, o QUEEN aproximou-se do ORIANA e procedeu-se à troca de saudações entre ambos, com uma sinfonia de apitos.

QM2 and ORIANA in Lisbon

On 9th August 2006 the British cruise ships QUEEN MARY 2 and ORIANA visited Lisbon together and although berthed in different terminals, the QE2 came close to the P&O ship while departing, giving way to a symphony of whistle salutes in the best tradition of ships and the sea.
