Two classic ships both designed and built to the order of the late Mr. Vasco Bensaude, the cruise ship FUNCHAL, and the four masted schooner CREOULA passed each other on the morning of 20 August 2010 in Lisbon waters.
Both ships are a lasting legacy of Mr. Bensaude's deep interest in his old shipping connections: the FUNCHAL was built in 1960-1961 in Denmark for Empresa Insulana under his close supervision and the same can be stated about the CREOULA, although his fine sailing ship was built in Lisbon in 1937 as a fishing schooner for Parceria Geral de Pescarias, another of the Bensaude Family's former shipping concerns.
The 49-year old FUNCHAL and the 73-year old CREOULA are still sailing under their original names and flag. as a living tribute to the shipping roots of the Bensaude Family's five generations as ship owners.
