DELPHIN VOYAGER maiden call in Lisbon 2007-09-13

The cruise ship DELPHIN VOYAGER arrived in Lisbon on 13 September 2007 on her first ever visit. She is on charter to Delphin Cruises of Germany and replaced their previous DELPHIN RENAISSANCE.
Built in Japan in 1990 for the Japan Cruise Line as their first cruise ship ORIENT VENUS, and sold to Greek interests in 2005, she was renamed CRUISE ONE, spending about two years rebuilding in Greece upon the start of her present charter and renaming. The 21.884 GT ship is owned by First Cruise One Corporation, a company registered in the Marshall islands, and managed by Enterprises Shipping & Trading, of Athens, Greece. So, to go to the point, she is in fact a Greek ship under charter to Germans...

O The Scholar Ship disponibiliza toda a informação no seu site:

NAVIOS BENSAUDE

O elemento comum é a Família Bensaude.

NEW CRUISE SHIPS BLOG - NOVO BLOGUE DE NAVIOS

My dear friend Rui A has started a new blog on cruise ships with some of his nice photos. Congratulations RUI. Click on the previous red words to enter his CRUISE SHIP FOTOS blog. The photo of the SKYWONDER was taken recently by Rui at Barcelona. This ship was built for Sitmar in 1984 as the final turbine driven cruise ship ever constructed. She was the third FAIRSKY and it was this newbuilding project that led SITMAR to sell the former Portuguese liner PRINCIPE PERFEITO they had purchased with the intention to convert for cruising. When the Barcelona yard that won the contract to rebuild our PRINCIPE PERFEITO asked for more money, Sitmar canceled the project and had a new ship built instead...

The face behind the pictures

The face behind the pictures. This time going nowhere for the moment. Just going along with a passion for ships that in 1975 took over a camera and turned into shipping photography. And each ship is a picture and for each picture I wish I could have a book. Another book was finished yesterday. The best one. My best book is always the one I'm working on right now. And this book - a company history and fleet list is about some of my favorite ships from the past. While doing it I got closer and closer to those ships and the men behind them. Starting with the company's founder, a very interesting and clever man who was unable to sign his name but did create a shipping company that is still going strong. While writing on him I became more and more involved with him, with his work, his partners and the people who managed the company after he passed away. He seems to be on the second picture waiting for his newest ship to cross the Tagus Bar. He still sails on the ships operated by his company. And that counts. And after more than a year working hard on books that never get finished I'm getting nuts. Sorry...

FOG PRINCE

There were two cruise ships scheduled to depart Lisbon on the evening of 2nd September 2007: the BLACK PRINCE and the ORIANA, so I stopped my book writing activities for a while and went to the Tagus mouth to see the ships. It was a foggy day and the best I could do was to register this FOGGY PRINCE passing by...

LISBON QUEEN

Not the QUEEN OF LISBON, but an amazing QUEEN IN LISBON.
The R.M.S. QUEEN ELIZABETH 2 has called in Lisbon countless times since 28th April 1969 when I first saw her alongside the Rocha cruise terminal dressed with flags and the original white funnel, while on her shakedown cruise.
Beautiful QE2. Photos taken in Lisbon on her last call on 2nd September 2007.

NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC ENDEAVOUR in Lisbon 2007-09-03

One of the smallest cruise ships in active service in the world, the little NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC ENDEAVOUR has probably the longest name. But small is beautiful and this former fishing trawler is going strong, cruising into the Atlantic after another call in Lisbon on 3rd September 2007.

QUERIDO PONTA DELGADA

Querido PONTA DELGADA.
