BOUDICCA in Funchal 2013-01-09

Photographs of the cruise ship BOUDICCA taken in Funchal, Madeira Island, on 9 January 2013 by Luís Miguel Correia.
Built in Finland for the famous Royal Viking Line and delivered in 1973 as the ROYAL VIKING SKY she became the SUNWARD in 1991 and got several other names until 2005 when she enetered the Fred. Olsen fleet as BOUDICCA. Check her history here...

BOUDICCA was one of 13 different passenger (cruise) ships I was able to photograph in my most recent photographic expedition to Madeira between 9 and 14 January 2013.

BOUDICCA IN LISBON 2007-06-01

The Fred Olsen cruise ship BOUDICCA visited Lisbon on 2007-06-01 again and I was able to register some more images of her taken on her departure from the Rocha Cruise Terminal. Originally built in Helsinki by Wartsila for the Royal Viking Line (the second of three sisters) as the ROYAL VIKING SKY, she is now sailing under her seventh name and joined her older sister ship BLACK WATCH ex-ROYAL VIKING STAR in 2005. Following a very extensive refit that included new main engines the BOUDICCA is now based in UK as one of the four soon to be five Fred Olsen cruise ships.

CRUISE SHIPS IN LISBON

January 2008 looks like a Fred Olsen month in terms of cruise ship calls in Lisbon. Interesting to note that all three former original Royal Viking sisters will be in Lisbon during January.
The ships on schedule to visit Lisbon were SAGA ROSE and ALBATROS (2nd January), AURORA and BLACK PRINCE ( 4th January), but due to stormy weather on the Eastern Atlantic and the Portuguese coast, only the ALBATROS made her call; Still on schedule are another 4 calls, all by Fred Olsen ships: BLACK WATCH (8th January), BOUDICCA on 15 and 21 and BLACK PRINCE on 17th January. Last but not the least, the ATHENA arrives on the 7th from Malaga for a lay up period until March, while the ARION is also laid up for the winter and the Portuguese ALGARVE CRUISER is based in Lisbon until March, for Tagus cruises. Also expected in Lisbon is the OCEAN MONARCH. She was purchased recently by Classic International Cruises and starts a refit in Lisbon Navalrocha yard on the 21st January.

The BOUDICCA leaving Lisbon in the afternoon of 12 November 2007. A beautiful ship in a beautiful setting: my city of Lisbon has been full of light and specially nice to photograph the cruise ships departing in the afternoon...

Fred. Olsen's BOUDICCA in new livery

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines has changed the livery of their four cruise ships adding a red line to the hull that now sports a dark grey colour.
BOUDICCA arrived in Lisbon on 31 December 2015 already in her new colours and I did a series of photographs to register the changes that are actually for the better, depicting the fine sense of taste of the Fred. Olsen dinasty of Norwegian shipowners.

BALMORAL and BOUDICCA in Funchal

Fred.Olsen cruise ships BALMORAL and BOUDICCA called in Funchal, Madeira Island together on 9th January 2013 and I went there to register the meeting and make a "family picture".
Fred. Olsen is a frequent visitor to Madeira waters since 1967 when the then brand new sisters BLACK PRINCE and BLACK WATCH of 1966 started to make regular calls on their regular service from London to the Atlantic Islands.
