SS OCEANIC - CLASSIC BEAUTY OF THE SIXTIES

With the former FRANCE now joining the list of illustrious passenger ships of the past, the few still active classic liners of the sixties should get all our attention. One such ships, and the last great Italian-built express liner (turned into a cruise liner from the very begining) of the sixties and the more successful of them all is the OCEANIC built in Monfalcone for Home Lines and still in steam in the Med based in Barcelona and operated by Pullmantur Cruises. Here it is a nice view of her taken in Villefranche on 25the April 2006.
The former FRANCE should have been just perfect to have returned to the Mediterranean as a Marseilles-based cruise ship doing for the French market what the OCEANIC did perform in Spain: create a growing new cruise market. And the FRANCE could sail on a 7-day itinerary for a few years to come, but it was no to be so... The second photo shows the OCEANIC at La Goullete, Tunis in late April 2006.
