THE IRPINIA IN LISBON
One of the first passenger ships I was able to photograph in Lisbon in 1975 was the old Siosa Line IRPINIA, that visited the Tagus port on her Easter cruise.
Formerly the French SGTM liner CAMPANA of 1929, she had been sold to Italy in 1955 and used on the Mediterranean - Central America service.
Her final calls in Lisbon were those in 1975, in March and then in June on her way to Northern Europe for a series of cruises to the Fjords.
Her final years saw the IRPINIA operating regular 7-day cruises from Genoa to the Western Mediterranean, until she was withdrawn from service in 1981 and replaced by the AUSONIA, to be broken up in La Spezia in September 1983.
