SANTA MARIA in Lisbon 24 April 1955

Portuguese passenger liner SANTA MARIA about to depart to Central and South America on 24 April 1955. She was Companhia Colonial most modern passenger liner, having started her maiden voyage in November 1953 and is shown in the photograph berthed at the Rocha do Conde de Óbidos passenger ship terminal, a modern facility inaugurated in 1948. The smoke is from the Italian Line CONTE GRANDE, also in port.
Photograph kindly sent by Cai Ronnaü.
The SANTA MARIA was one of my favorite Portuguese Liners, and the first ship I remember being onboard as passenger, in April 1961, when I sailed on her on the ship-s first voyage after the hijack incident the previous January. I was 4 years old at the time and remember well her interiors and the trip.

Vi a passagem do ano 72/73.
"Como jà me senti tão feliz a bordo do "Santa Maria".
