Forty years ago, the Port of Lisbon witnessed the final seasons of deep sea passenger liner shipping.
In November 1969 there were 54 calls made by 36 ships, only 3 of them cruising.
The largest number of ships were Portuguese (ALFREDO DA SILVA, AMÉLIA DE MELLO, ANGOLA, ANGRA DO HEROÍSMO, CARVALHO ARAÚJO, FUNCHAL, INFANTE DOM HENRIQUE, MOÇAMBIQUE, NIASSA, PÁTRIA, PRÍNCIPE PERFEITO, RITA MARIA, SANTA MARIA and TIMOR), followed by 10 italian liners (ACHILLE LAURO, ANDREA C, AUGUSTUS, CRISTOFORO COLOMBO, ENRICO C, EUGENIO C, FAIRSTAR - this under Liberian registry - FEDERICO C, GIULIO CESARE and GUGLIELMO MARCONI) and 6 British passenger ships (ARCADIA, ARGENTINA STAR, BRASIL STAR, ORIANA, ORONSAY and URUGUAY STAR).
Two Spanish liners, CABO SAN VICENTE and COVADONGA visited Lisbon as well as the French PASTEUR and the Norwegian BERGENSFJORD. However, the more interesting ships for a 13-year old ship enthusiast already deeply interested in the Lisbon passenger shipping scene were the American liners PRESIDENT ROOSEVELT and UNITED STATES, both doing long off-season luxury cruises.

Yes the picture is very good, but the ship herself is fantastic. I would spend a lot of money rebuilding her rather than building those new floating resorts...
