The Portuguese general cargo and container carrier PICO CASTELO is seen here at the Lisnave Rocha shipyard in Lisbon, in 1998, following an accident in her engine room which led to her sale to be broken up in Aliaga.
PICO CASTELO is one of about 30 merchant ships owned by Empresa de Navegação Madeirense, now the oldest Portuguese shipping company, established in 1907 and still going strong. If interested in the history of the PICO CASTELO and her fleet mates see the book EMPRESA DE NAVEGAÇÂO MADEIRENSE 1907-2007 here. Photographof the PICO CASTELO taken by L. M. Correia in 1998 in Lisbon.
